Tastes: Flavors Of Historic Fullerton
KHAN SAAB DESI CRAFT KITCHEN
Named a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant every year since its 2020 opening, this popular spot is known for its fusion of Pakistani, Indian, and Afghan cuisines. And when it comes to presentation, the smoked salmon kabob is a showstopper. Wild-caught salmon is seasoned with a Dijon mustard rub, fried in turmeric oil and spices, then charcoal-smoked under a dome. The big reveal happens upon presentation. 229 E. Commonwealth Ave., 714-853-1081, khansaaboc.com
THE CELLAR
It’s as legendary as the city it calls home. Located under the landmark Villa del Sol, the restaurant opened in 1969 and was designed by a former Disney creative who worked on the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. On the menu since Day 1: the chateaubriand, cut from the thickest part of the tenderloin and carved tableside. It’s served with béarnaise sauce, a truffle demi-glace, mashed potatoes, and sauteed vegetables. 305 N. Harbor Blvd., 714-525-5682, cellardining.com
MULBERRY STREET RISTORANTE & BAR
Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, the family-owned restaurant serves up authentic Italian dishes, refined and elevated by the culinary team through the years. The chicken parmigiana has become a popular mainstay. A generous portion of chicken breast is pounded thin and pan-fried. Then it’s covered in marinara and a sprinkling of mozzarella, and finished in the oven. It’s served with house-made fettuccini alfredo for a delicious, hearty meal. 114 W. Wilshire Ave., 714-525-1056, mulberryfullerton.com
SUMMIT HOUSE
Open since 1989 and known for its city-lights view and Tudor-style setting, this dining destination has become a popular choice for special occasions and family gatherings. A dish that equals in popularity: the roast prime rib of beef— specifically, WR Reserve Premium Black Angus prime rib from Nebraska. The culinary team ages the meat for at least 28 days, then slow roasts it for an entire day. It’s served with Summit’s signature creamed corn au gratin, creamed spinach, Yorkshire popovers, and au jus. 2000 E. Bastanchury Road, 714-671-4111, summithouse.com
