Outdoor Adventures: Jet Ski from Long Beach to Catalina
The full day of fun starts around 7:30 a.m., with prices starting at $399. Be sure to pack essentials for a beach day, such as a towel, water, sunscreen, inexpensive sunglasses, gloves to avoid blisters, snacks, and a backpack. A wetsuit and life vest will be provided.
After getting suited up, seated on your jet ski, and given a safety briefing, you’ll get pushed off the dock to travel the two hours to Catalina. You’ll make four stops along the way to look at wildlife and catch your breath. Expect to see everything from whales and seals to flying fish, which can travel hundreds of feet alongside you. If you’re lucky, you also may be able to get up close to playful dolphins. “They’ll ride with the jet skis and swim right in front of you,” says the company’s general manager, Marcus Stark. “I’ve actually been hit by a dolphin because it was so close to the ski.”
Once you arrive, you’ll have about three hours to explore the island, and will be provided with snorkel gear if you choose to partake in the activity. You can also opt to stay the night in Avalon for an additional fee. After the three hours are up, you’ll head back to Long Beach with three stops along the way and will arrive around 4 p.m., with a new story to share with friends and family.
